Hanjin Woes Boost West Coast Spot Market Truck Freight, Rates

As the West Coast feels ripple effects from the bankruptcy of Hanjin Shipping Co., nationally the number of load on the spot truckload freight market fell 5% during the week ending Sept. 24 compared to the week before as truck capacity increased 3%, according to DAT Solutions, its network of load boards.

August truck tonnage volumes see gains, reports ATA

With macroeconomic indicators as mixed as they have been in several quarters, data issued this week by the American Trucking Associations pointed to truck tonnage volumes pointing up in August. Seasonally-adjusted (SA) for-hire truck tonnage in August at 141.8 (2000=100) was up 5.7 percent over July, which was down 2.1 percent compared to June.

The US trucking industry hauled a record US$726.4 billion in freight last year, according to the latest edition of American Truck Trends, compiled by the American Trucking Associations (ATA). That marks two consecutive year that the value of freight hauled by truck topped $700 million.
