With tariffs looming, shoppers say they’ll adjust spending

About 60% of shoppers say they’ll adjust which retailers they shop at if the Trump Administration’s proposed tariffs on Chinese imports go into effect, according to a survey from rewards app Shopkick. The company surveyed more than 30,000 of its app users.

Costco releases digital membership card

Costco announced last week that members could access a digital membership card via the retailer’s app by creating an account on Costco.com, according to a company Instagram post. Customers can use the app when entering the warehouse and checking out, according to the company’s website.

Back to school sales to grow up to 2.5%

This back-to-school season could bring a “significant slowdown” in sales, according to a new report from Coresight Research emailed to Retail Dive. The firm expects 2% to 2.5% year-over-year growth in non-food retail sales between July and September, down from 4.4% growth for the period in 2018.

Gen Z to shop in-store for the holidays

Gen Z is headed to physical stores for the upcoming holiday shopping season, with 55% saying they’ll do the majority of their holiday shopping at brick and mortar shops, according to a Shopkick survey emailed to Retail Dive. Fifty-four percent of Boomers said they will do most of their shopping in stores.

Back-to-school spending expected to reach record highs

Consumer spending is expected to reach nearly $26.2 billion, or $696.70 per household, on K-12 back-to-school items in 2019.
